Triple Chocolate Marble Cake

For a delicious cake, combine chocolate and vanilla making a retro triple layered marble cake.

Preheat the oven to 160 and grease and line 3 x 8" (20cm) cake tins.

Beat together in 1 bowl, until lump free:

5oz (140g) Self Raising Flour

5oz (140g) Caster Sugar

5oz (140g) Margarine

3 eggs

1/2 tsp Vanilla essence

In a 2nd bowl, beat together, until lump free:

4oz (115g) Self Raising Flour

2oz Cocoa Powder 

4oz (115g) Caster Sugar

4oz (115g) Margarine

2tbs Milk

3 eggs

 

Once you have your 2 bowls of ingredients mixed well, Spoon alternative dollops of your mixture into the 3 prepared cake tins, using a skewer, pull it through the mixture to create swirls.Thus creating the marble pattern. (I made a vanilla layer, a chocolate layer and marbled just the top cake, but you can marble all of them, your choice) 

Make sure you don't over mix, else you won't see the pattern.

Bake in the oven for 20 mins or until an inserted skewer comes out clean.

Once cooked, leave in the tins to cool. Then turn out onto wire racks to finish cooling completely.

To make the cream and topping.

Cream together..

10 oz (285g) sieved icing sugar

5oz (140g) Margarine

Once thoroughly creamed together separate equally into 2 bowls.

Add 1tbs of cocoa to one of the bowls and mix well in. if it becomes too stiff, add a dash of milk, to soften the consistency.

You can now either spread the buttercream, separately between the layers of your cake or a mixture of the 2.

I used a piping bag and star nozzle to make mixed swirls on the top.

Another option may be to melt chocolate and drizzle this over the top too. either way is yummy :)
